Eboo Patel is the author of the award-winning book, Acts of Faith: The Story of an American Muslim, the Struggle for the Soul of a Generation. He will be speaking tonight at 7:30 PM at the Tripp Commons in the Memorial Union. His core belief is that religion is a bridge of cooperation rather than a barrier of division. “The Wisconsin Uprising of 2011 – And Beyond” is the topic of a free public forum that will be presented by the Madison Institute, tonight, from 7:30 to 9:30 PM at the Morgridge Auditorium in the UW Business School, 975 University Avenue. VITA stands for "Volunteer Income Tax Assistance" and it is a cooperative effort by the Internal Revenue Service and many individual states, including Wisconsin, to provide income tax assistance to low-income individuals, handicapped or elderly. Volunteers trained by the Internal Revenue Service and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue prepare basic income tax returns free of charge at VITA sites. The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) is another free tax assistance program. This program serves individuals who have a problem with the Internal Revenue Service and whose income is below a certain level. LITCs are independent from the IRS. Most LITCs can provide representation before the IRS or in court on audits, tax collection disputes, and other issues for free or for a small fee. If you receive a letter from the IRS saying there was some type of problem with your tax return, the LITC can help! Madison organizers are holding a “Hoodie Rally” on Saturday, April 7th from noon to 2pm on the State Street steps of the State Capitol Building. The Hoodie Rally will remember Bo Morrison and Trayvon Martin, demand justice for the victims of gun violence, and oppose laws that allow killing of our youth. This rally is also to call for an end to racism and stereotyping.
