Today through March ninth is WORT’s “Thirty-five years in your ears” pledge drive. There are lots of nice phone answers standing by to take calls and nifty premiu. Participants may join listeners from all over by calling 256-2001.
 
“Volunteer Income Tax Assistance” and “Taxpayer Counseling for the Elderly” of the “Internal Revenue Service” and others provide income tax assistance to provide assistance to low-income, differently-abled, non-English speaking, or elderly people and may include free IRS electronic filing of tax returns. On-going the James Watrous Gallery hosts an exhibit entitled, “Wisconsin Labor: A Contemporary Portrait”.  The exhibit uses photographs by six artists to examine the diversity of Wisconsin’s labor force.  This is at the Overture Center, 201 State Street through April 10 and will include several gallery talks. The Urban League’s “Schools of Hope” program has a desperate need and many volunteer opportunities available for people. Participants will tutor at-risk elementary, middle and high school students with homework, organization, time management and study skills. For details call 251-8550.

“Dane County Friends of Ferals” needs homes for outdoor cats. For a small fee, food, water and shelter the cats are neutered or spayed, vaccinated, dewormed and tested for “Feline Leukemia Virus” and “Feline Immunodeficiency Virus”. Call 467-4067 for details.
