This week's special series honors the Stonewall Rebellion
anniversary. Today in 1952: The New York Times reports that the State
Department fired one hundred and nineteen alleged homosexuals in 1951 as
(quote) "security risks."
Today in 1977: Thousands in New York, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and several other major U.S. cities march in coordinated demonstrations to end discrimination against gay men and lesbians.

It’s today’s Action Calendar!
Tonight, Joanna Macy, world-renowned author, eco-philosopher,
Buddhist scholar and sustainability activist, will speak on “Active Hope: How
to Face the Mess We’re In Without Going Crazy.” Macy will share her passion and
her expertise in transforming apathy and despair into constructive, collaborative
action. There is a suggested donation. This is tonight at 7pm at First
Unitarian Society, 900 University Bay Drive in Madison. For more info, call

Dane County Friends of Ferals volunteers are dedicated to
bettering the future of feral cats. Their mission is to establish a no-kill
standard and promote the value and well-being of Dane County area feral cats.

Community Literacy is a Literacy Network ESL program designed to
tutor adult learners one-on-one in a classroom setting where childcare and
additional tutor support are available. No
experience or foreign language skills required! Childcare for both

Pick
up an issue of Street Pulse, Madison's Homeless cooperative newspaper, for a
suggested donation from vendors located on State Street, Capital Square, Willy
Street Coop, and in other locations. Pulse seeks innovative ways to alleviate
and raise awareness of homelessness and poverty. For more information or
