Vets for Peace install the Memorial Mile! If you can spare a couple hours, join vets for peace as they place over 6429 tombstones to remember those who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Setup begins at 9:00 am at Olbrich Park on Atwood Avenue.  If you can’t be a part of the setup, be sure to drive by and see the real impact these wars have had on American families.  For more information call 438-7480.

The People’s Bratfest Returns!  This Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM at the UW Library Mall!!  This year there will be all-natural organic brats, pretzel buns, cheese curds, sodas, cotton candy, and desserts including baklava from Athens Gyros! For all you vegan and veggie sausage lovers out there, there will also be an excellent array of Field Roast veggie sausages (Italian, Mexican Chipotle, Smoked Apple Sage) in addition to their new Frankfurters. PBF II is proud to be the only brat fest in town where 100% of our profits go to local charities and community organizations! Plus, there is a fantastic peformance line-up featuring: the Pints, the Skintones, the Solidarity Singers, the FamilyBusiness, Ad Hoc String Band, Forward! Emerson East neighborhood is creating a chalk mural on the theme "a sustainable neighborhood". The mural design is a composite of sketches from, and voted on by, neighborhood residents.   This will be open for all - to publically chalk the parking lot at the James Reeb Unitarian Universalist Congregation, on E. Johnson at Fourth St. from 1 to 5 pm this Saturday. For more information call 241-2473. Local groups and businesses, including 4&20 Bakery & Cafe, Dexter's, the Emerson East Neighborhood Association, Gail Ambrosius Chocolatier, Jade Mountain Cafe, James Reeb, Manna Cafe, MG&E, Milio's, Noah's Art Pet Center, Salon Rue Cler, Sector 67 and Upham Street Pottery, are supporting the mural project.

This Saturday night at 7PM, the Marquette Neighborhood Association will be having its Art and Culture Fundraiser! Enjoy snacks from Willy St Co-op Chef, Lily Kilfoy; learn more about art and cultural initiatives of the MNA, explore the Willy Street Art Center garden and studio, and lend your support for exciting upcoming projects such as: a large “gateway” sculpture by welding wizard Erika Koivunen; historic markers telling the story of the Willy Street neighborhood; and a mural by Panmela Castro, Brazilian graffiti artist, who recently painted at Mother Fools.
