Thursday night at 5 PM at the UW-Madison Memorial Union (check Today in the Union for exact location), there will be a screening of At the River I Stand!,. It is reportedly a "powerful one hour documentary film depicting sanitation workers in the 1960’s Memphis. The group formed the lowest caste of a deeply racist society, earning so little they qualified for welfare. When they go on strike, Martin Luther King, Jr. decides to expand his Poor People's Campaign and, ignoring his more liberal advisors, comes to Memphis where he is eventually assassinated". Thursday night at 7 PM at Electric Earth Cafe (546 W. Washington Ave.) there will be a Valentine’s Day Extravaganza! Fair trade chocolate tasting, activist speed dating, cool door prizes, plus a screening of Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human, a hilarious space alien’s anthropological investigation of human courtship, mating, and reproduction. Thursday night at 7:00 pm at the Escape Java Joint (916 Williamson St. ) join the Green Action Network for the local premiere of the new film Keeping the Lights On – Burning Coal to Make Electricity. More than 70% of the electricity used in Wisconsin is produced by burning coal. The film looks at the impacts of coal burning. A discussion will follow the video.

During the month of February, "Absolutely Art", located at 2322 Atwood Avenue will feature an exhibit by Nancy Welch and Judy Landsman. The show is entitled "Humor Us" and is an exhibit of assemblages made from found & gifted objects. This show will delight both young and old alike. For gallery hours or more info call 249-9100.

Thursday night at 7 pm, Salon Q will meet at the UW Memorial Union’s Lakefront Cafeteria. Look for the "SalonQ" sign on the table. SalonQ is an inclusive adult social/discussion group organized by OutReach, Madison & south-central Wisconsin's LGBT Community Center. It is designed as a conversation group for any member of the community looking for a safe and healthy way to meet and get to know new people. A group of local artists is showing creative works in a collective Verde Art show at Manna Café & Bakery in Madison during the month of February. Manna Café is located at 611 North Sherman Avenue. Show hours will be Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information contact Kathy Esch at 220-9700.
