THE HISTORY OF August 1st, I'm___________________ .

AND I'm ___________. Today in 1917: During a prolonged conflict between miners and copper companies in Butte, Montana, a vigilante group drags "Industrial Workers of the World" leader, Frank Little --broken leg and all --from his boarding house and hangs him from a railroad trestle.

As a warning to others, the lynchers pin the old vigilante numbers, 3-7-77, to Little's clothes. Authorities will make no attempt to find the assailants.
