On Saturday - 100 Thousand Poets for Change is hosting 600 events in 450 cities and 95 countries to promote environmental, social, and political change. In partnership with the 100 Thousand Poets for Change project, the Madison, Wisconsin, event will take place at Elizabeth Link Peace Park, in the 400 block of State Street from 11 am to 6 pm. Each participant will have 10 minutes to read poetry or short prose on the themes of the day. Open slots still remain. This Saturday is the first 'meet up' of a brand new radical environmental group with a plan of action for everyone determined to fight for this planet – and win. Deep Green Resistance is hosting the meeting at Rainbow Bookstore (426 W. Gilman) from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm. Inspired in part by the new book by Aric McBay, Lierre Keith, and Derrick Jensen. Kick the Coal Habit Carnival! This Saturday! Part of 'Moving Planet: A Day to Move Beyond Fossil Fuels', the festivities include a 20' tall inflatable coal plant, songs by the Raging Grannies, info tables, face painting, poster contests, letter writing to the EPA and President Obama, plus free Chocolate Shoppe ice cream to help give coal a licking! Come and taste the best vegan chili in town this Saturday at our annual AFA Vegan Chili Cookoff. Attendees will be able to taste and vote on six different delicious chili recipes from local restaurants while enjoying soft drinks and vegan desserts. Live music by local musician Dave Sewell! On Sunday, "Windows Into Gaza", a photo exhibit about children and daily life in Gaza by professional photographer Skip Schiel, will open at Edgewood College. This free exhibit will be open for viewing from 8 am to 9 pm through October 6, in Sonderegger Hall. The Exhibit is sponsored by Madison Monthly Meeting (Quakers); the Department of Philosophy and World Peace Program of Edgewood College, and the Madison-Rafah Sister City Project.
