Thursday night at 7 PM, SalonQ, an inclusive adult LGBT social and discussion group, will meet at Outreach, 600 Williamson Street in Madison. The group meets weekly and is designed for any member of the community looking for a safe and healthy way to meet and get to know new people. Thursday night from 7 to 8 pm at Rennebohm Park, 115 North Eau Claire Avenue in Madison , Jim Latimer will conduct the “Capital City Band” in a free concert. Bringing a lawn chair is suggested. For details contact 835-9861.

Thursday night at 6 pm, the Stoughton Fire Department (381 East Main Street) will host a “Healthcare NOT Warfare” Town Hall Meeting. Topics to be discussed are: “what is single payer” (“Medicare for All”), “why Obama is wrong on NOT fighting for single payer”, “why he is wrong on the wars”, “why he is wrong on NOT prosecuting torture”. The group will outline what can be done to drastically cut military expenditures and organize for lobbying. For details contact 873-4886.

Thursday night at 6 pm, Good Oak Ecological Services will sponsor another free “Wildflower Walk”. Participants will meet at the parking lot for the Grady Tract section of the UW Arboretum at the southeast corner of Seminole Highway and the Beltlone frontage road. There is a likelihood of a lot of mosquitoes, so appropriate attire and insect repellent are suggested. For details contact 209-0607.

Registration has begun for the August 7 Conference on “Understanding and Overcoming Poverty in Wisconsin”. A keynote address by Representative David Obey is scheduled as are presentations and discussions on the topics of community approaches to ending poverty; education matters; food insecurity and health; housing and shelter; workforce development and workplace justice. Thursday night at 6 pm the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation will offer a walking tour of State Street. No reservations are required.
