Tonight the Gilded Bats will bring their rockin' old-time string band sound to Mother Fool's Coffee House, 1101 Williamson Street, Show starts at 8 PM.

On Sunday at 7 PM, the Escape Java Joint, 916 Williamson Street, the peregrine Forum will sponsor a screening of "State of the Union", a 2002, 45 minute documentary with Kathleen Cleaver and others about the interplay of money and politics and its impact on the underclass, especially Black America, and similarities between the two major parties. Friday at 6 PM, at the Majestic Theater, 115 King Street, the film The Business of Being Born, will be featured followed by a Talk-Back session featuring local midwives and physicians. The film follows several women, including Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein, as they prepare for and give birth to their babies in the New York City area. The film also explores childbirth in the United States and other countries and spotlights noted experts as they critique the cultural values underlying our current obstetric system of care. The event will be moderated by Tony Castenada and will repeat on Sunday at 2 pm. Call 345-6208 for details.

Friday night from 5 to 7 PM, Dardanelles Restaurant, 1851 Monroe Street, will host SOA Vigilers ¡Presente ! - a reunion and update on the efforts to close the School of the Americas. All-you-can eat papas will be offered during the presentation. More info at soawmadison@yahoo.com.

Saturday from 11 to 1 PM at Madison Infoshop, 1019 Williamson Street, Madison May Day Committee will hold a meeting to organize community wide events celebrating international worker solidarity. For details call 255-1800.

Also Saturday, High Noon Saloon, 701 E. Washington, will host a People’s Networking Convention (PNC) benefit show from 2 to 6 pm, featuring music by Thistle, Spires that in the Sunset Rise, and Los Surenos del Norte. The convention will be held in Madison from August 15-17 and will provide a space for discussion and debate of non-elections based organizing. Besides live music, there will be a drawing for prizes, food, and party games. Call 268-1122 for details.

Saturday from 4:30 to 8:30 PM, Pres House, 731 State Street, will host a Community Celebration of Peace Vigils Across Wisconsin. Special guest appearances, music, a video presentation, and a Potluck are on the agenda. Bring a salad or dessert. Soup and cider provided. For details call 250-9240.
