THE
HISTORY OF August 8th, I'm___________________ .
AND I'M ___________. Today in 1990: Karen
and Bill Bell join a national campaign of the Feminist Majority against
parental-consent requirements for abortion. The Bell's daughter, Becky, died
September 16, 1988, from a massive infection due to a botched, illegal abortion.
The first known teenage victim of parental-consent laws, Becky
sought the illegal abortion because she didn't want to disappoint her parents,
and she knew Indiana judges were not giving permission under the state's
parental-consent law.
