THE HISTORY OF August 15th, I'm___________________ .

And I’m ___________. Today in1623: Catalina de Erauzo is convicted of murder in Spain. Locked in a convent for most of her youth, at age fifteen she escapes in boys' clothes. Taking the alias Antonio Ramrez de Guzman, she has led a life of adventure and earned a reputation for gambling, dueling and purse-snatching.

Erauzo fought and won innumerable duels, killing at least seven people. In one fight, she stabbed three men to death. Erauzo will avoid execution by revealing her sex. She will be freed and given permission to wear men's clothing. The Pope will absolve her of her sins.

It’s Today’s Action Calendar!

Tonight, the East Isthmus Neighborhood Planning Council will be hosting the second Union Corners Neighborhoods meeting. At this meeting, the developers who have submitted proposals for Union Corners will be given 15 minutes each for a presentation, and time will also be made for questions from you, the public. The Planning Council will then compile and present the ideas and recommendations to the selection committee for consideration. This will be tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Goodman Community Center, 149 Waubesa Street.

You are invited to sign a condolence book for the victims and families of Oak Creek. The book is available for visitors to the Wisconsin State Capitol to send their messages of sympathy and support to the victims’ families, the Sikh community, and the entire community of Oak Creek.  The book will be available to sign through this Friday, August 17th, and is located at the main tour desk on the ground floor, just off the rotunda of the State Capitol.

Prevent Child Abuse before it starts. Volunteers are needed with Canopy Center to co-facilitate groups of youth, teens, and adults that have experienced abuse and hardship within the family. Contact Sarah at 729-1130 or visit their website at canopycenter.org.
