THE HISTORY OF August 16th, I'm ___________________ .

And I'm ___________________________. Today in 1987, peace activist George Ostensen enters the Extremely Low Frequency, or ELF Communication System Transmitter site near Clam Lake, Wisconsin.

He cuts down three ELF poles and pours blood over them. He also places photos of children inside groundswell electrical control boxes and plants flowers in them. Undetected, he goes to the Terminal Control Center to inform security guards of his actions.

He has to manually switch off generators which control computer and electricity at the site three times before the local sheriff is called. He is arrested nine hours after he enters the site. He will be convicted of two counts of felony sabotage at his trial in Ashland and sentenced to thirty three months in prison.

It's today’s Action Calendar!

Tonight, Community Justice Incorporated hosts its annual Summer Fundraiser to support their efforts to Bridge the Gap to Justice in our community. CJI is a private, non-profit general interest law firm providing legal services to those with limited means.  The fundraiser will be at the Brink Lounge, 701 East Washington Avenue.  This is from 5 to 7pm and will include appetizers, a cash bar, live music, and a silent auction featuring donations from local businesses.  The event has no cost but a small donation at the door is suggested.  Contact Jennifer at 608-442-3003 or communityjusticeinc.org.

This Saturday, help support local farms and food at the FairShare CSA Coalition Fundraiser. This benefit concert brings together a Wisconsin trinity of pleasures: music, food, and farms!
