This afternoon, the Classics Graduate Forum, the Department of Classics, the Department of History, and the Classics Society host Mark Payne, Associate Professor Classics, Fundamentals, and the College at the University of Chicago. His talk is entitled “Pre- and Post-Humanities: Animal Studies, Classical Studies, and New Directions in Critical Theory”. This is in Room 104 of Van Hise Hall at 4. Tonight, Absolutely Art & Café Zoma present Barbara Westfall and Lily Hoywer-Winfield as their featured artists for the month of October. Barbara Westfall show is titled “Still Wandering”. She is an artist, educator and curator specializing in creating and examining works of art that weave the connections between art, people and natural environment. Lily Hoyer-Winfield's show is titled “Dilly Dally” and will highlight the various mediums that inspire her right now: fabric, needlework, painting on paper and wood. Andy Ewen, of Honor Among Thieves, will play acoustic Blues Rock and Bunky’s Café will provide the food. This is at Absolutely Art, 2322 Atwood Avenue, from 5 to 9. Tomorrow, the Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice hosts its Annual Assembly with a discussion on immigrant rights with speciali guests Christine Neumann-Ortiz and Chip Beriet. Christine Neumann-Ortiz is the founding Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera in Milwaukee and Chip Beriet is the Senior Analyst at Public Research Associates in Massachusetts. Sunday is the 25th International Kite Fly For Peace. The event includes kites flown by regional kite fliers, sport kites, show kites, high-flying deltas, ground displays, music& kite making for kids.
