This afternoon, there is a Latino Campus & Community Forum on “Arts, Activism, and Academics”. Spoken word artist Paul Flores will give a preview of his Cinefest performance at the Latino Campus & Community Forum that aims to connect resources between UW Madison and the Latino community. Tonight, The Madison Area Peace Coalition holds a panel discussion with Matt Rothschild and Rahul Mahajan on the last five years on the US War on Terror. Matt Rothschild is editor of “The Progressive” magazine and Rahul Mahajan is author of Full Spectrum Dominance: U.S. Power in Iraq and Beyond. The 7th annual Cinefest begins tonight. This year’s theme is “Civil Rights, Spoken Word, and Hip Hop: From Old School to New School”. Cinefest is free and open to the public. This runs through Sunday. For more information, check www.union.wisc.edu/film.

This weekend, Filmcon brings independent sci-fi and fantasy films from around the world to Madison. In addition to the films, the convention features guests from the movie industry to teach and talk about film to independent filmmakers. This year's guests include Chris Shy, Concept artist and designer for 20th Century Fox's "Pathfinder" and Charley Montoya, set dresser for "Pirates of the Caribbean" 2 and 3. The event raises money for the Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation in Middleton, Wisconsin. This is at the Radisson Inn West, 517 Grand Canyon Drive. For more details, check filmcon.org.
