This afternoon, there is a Celebration of Womens' Equality Day at the Capitol. This is the 86th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. Light refreshments are provided. This is free and open to the public in the 2nd Floor Rotunda of the Capitol Building from 4 to 5:45. Contact wiwomen@execpc.org to learn more.

Saturday, the Wisconsin Network for Peach and Justice, Madison Friends Meeting, Fair Wisconsin & American Friends Service Committee’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Issues Program hold Nonviolent Dialogue Training. The American Friends Service Committee trainer will use the “listen, affirm, respond, and add” method to teach peaceful engagement. This is at the Friends Meeting House, 1704 Roberts Court, from 10 to 2. There is a sliding-scale fee. Call 255-0533 to check if room is still available.

Rape Crisis Center is looking for women to staff their 24-hour confidential crisis line. Women fluent in Spanish are especially needed. The Center will provide training in the fall over five sessions and volunteers must complete the application and interview process prior to attending training. The Parental Stress Center needs volunteers to answer its parental stress line. The stress line provides a compassionate, listening ear to parents when they are feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Volunteers can choose their schedule each week and answer calls from their home or cell phone. Check parentalstresscenter.org or call 241-4888 to volunteer or for more information.
