The recall elections for State Senators are August 9th and August 16th. These elections are a crucial first step toward reclaiming the Wisconsin we know and love, and we need your help to ensure the integrity of these vital elections. You can do this by volunteering as a poll watcher with the Election Defense Alliance. Training is provided and you are not required to live in the district to become a poll watcher. Know a local teenager than needs some artistic release? Paste Up! – Street Art Camp for Teens looking for 8-12 kids in the Madison area to fill the camp. Also, if you happen to own a building on Madison’s Eastside, we’re looking for places to install the student’s temporary artwork. There will also be a wrap-up party, including a scavenger hunt for all our donated walls. Donations of lunch and money to support the Paste-Up Camp are also welcome. The camp is Mon. Aug. 1st – Fri. "The “Wheelchair Recycling Program” offers low cost, refurbished mobility and medical equipment to people that may not have the resources to obtain them new. This can include wheelchairs, walkers, bath items, grab bars and other assistive equipment for purchase. There are offices in Madison and the Greater-Milwaukee area. Saturday July 30th 10:00am – 10:00 pm the Kickapoo Country Fair will have dozens of vendors including Organic Valley, informational booths, kids activities, workshops, a farm tour. Sunshine Soul Festival is organizing an event at the Capital Brewery on 7/31 from 12 to 10pm to help build a home for a sponsored family in Haiti. This family lost their home along with some of their relatives in the 2010 earthquake. There will authentic Haitian food, bake sale and a raffle. The Respite Center is a safe place for kids, ages birth to fourteen, whose families are under stress or in crisis. They are looking for volunteers to play with kids four hours a week. Training is required. Call 244-5730 for details.

Wisconsin Books to Prisoners is a non-profit organization sponsored by “Rainbow bookstore” that sends books to prisoners in Wisconsin and other states. They believe that quote “books are tools for learning and can open minds to new ideas and fresh possibilities.” They accept donations. Contact 426 West Gilman Street or 257-6050 for details.

The Insurgent Radio Kiosk welcomes listener commentaries on subjects of interest to the W.O.R.T. listening community. Commentaries are limited to two minutes. Interested people who wish to do a Kiosk commentary may call the station at 256-2001 and leave a message for the Kiosk.
