Thurs. May 19th All Day State Capitol People’s Lobby Day – this is NOT your typical lobby day as we will not be asking, but demanding, that our representatives stop bankrolling Wall Street and support Main Street instead by voting NO on Gov. Walker’s proposed budget.

Kathie Giorgio, author of The Home for Wayward Clocks, will be speaking at Room of One’s Own. She is the director and founder of All Writers’ Workplace & Workshop, a creative writing studio, and the editor/owner/publisher of the literary magazine, Quality Fiction. This weekend is Proud Theater’s production of Rockin’ the Rotunda! Proud theater is an innovative youth theater program designed to foster self-expression and self-empowerment for Madison-area youth. Shows are Thursday and Friday evening at 7:30pm and Saturday at 2:30 and 7:30pm at the Bartell Theatre, 113 E. Mifflin St. Go to www.proudtheater.org for ticket prices and more information.

There is a free nature walk tonight from 4:30 to 6pm titled Native Forest Blooms. Discover some native plants and learn about their place in the forest ecosystem. Shrubs and trees and invasive species will be part of our focus as well during this program. Meet at Orchid Heights Park shelter, 3960 Valley Ridge Road, Middleton. The Alliance for Animals has volunteer opportunities to help animals. These might include tabling at the Farmer’s Market, distributing pro-animal literature or joining the antivivisection Committee. For details visit allanimals.org or call 257-6333.

Wisconsin Books to Prisoners is a non-profit organization sponsored by “Rainbow bookstore” that sends books to prisoners in Wisconsin and other states. They believe that quote “books are tools for learning and can open minds to new ideas and fresh possibilities.” They accept donations. Contact 426 West Gilman Street or 257-6050 for details.
