On the 2nd Thursday of each month, The Silly Yak Bakery & Bread Barn donates 10% of its day’s sales to an organization in and around Madison. This Thursday's recipient is Capital K9s. Capital K-9s is a nonprofit organization comprised of area volunteers to assist the Madison Police Department in establishing and maintaining a patrol K-9 unit. The Silly Yak Bakery & Bread Barn is located at 7866 Mineral Point Road.

Tonight, Madison's Independent Media kicks of Fighting Bob Fest with a People's Media Bash. Featured performers are Marques Bovre & SoDang Yang, Bonobo Secret Handshake, and The Pinch. This is at the High Noon Saloon, 701 East Washington Avenue, beginning at 6:30. There is a suggested donation. For more information check high-noon.com.

Tonight, Strollers Theatre opens “84 Charing Cross Road” by Helen Hanff. It is a true story based on the playwright’s long-distance relationship with Frank, a bookstore owner in London, and the ensuing friendships with the quirky staff of the shop. The cast features Stephanie Monday as Helene and Steve Myck as Frank. This runs through October 2 on the Evjue Stage at the Bartell Theatre, 113 East Mifflin Street. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30pm; Fridays at 8pm; and Saturdays at both 4pm and 8pm. Call 661-9696 x2 for tickets.
