This evening, there is a Peak Oil & Climate Crisis Meet Up. The group meets to build networks to deal with the effects of peak oil and global warming. This weekend and through December 17, Broom Street Theater presents “A Very Bitchy Christmas”. The story is about a Grandpa, who started a family tradition many years ago, telling stories around a Christmas bonfire at his house. But when he dies unexpectedly and Grandma decides she has had enough stories from a family she doesn’t even like it becomes a Christmas like no other. It explores the true meaning of traditions and of family. This is every Friday and Saturday at 8 and Sundays at 2 at the Broom Street Theater, 1119 Williamson Street. The Grassroots Leadership College is accepting applications through December 15 to join the Spring 2007 Semester. Participants can learn how to be more effective in their community work. Childcare and dinner are included in each session. The sessions run on Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30 from January 18 to May 10. There is a registration cost, but scholarships are available. These classes are at Christ Presbyterian Church, 944 East Gorham Street. Applications are available at grassrootsleadershipcollege.org or by calling 441-0085.

Every year the Parental Stress Center hosts a Holiday Party for the families they serve. They need several volunteers to bake cookies for kids to decorate or help prepare and serve festive holiday meal on Sunday, December 17. The Urban League of Greater Madison seeks volunteers help to improve the social economic conditions of African Americans, other communities of color and the disadvantaged. The need help with youth education & career development; workforce development; home ownership, business development and social entrepreneurism.
