Tomorrow, the Madison Review literary magazine hosts a reading by Wisconsin author Jane Hamilton. She lives in Wisconsin, where many of her novels are set. The reading is free and open to the public. This is at the Overture Center on State Street at 8. After the reading, the Review will host a release party for its Fall 2010 issue at the Orpheum at 9. There is a charge for the party. Wisconsin Books to Prisoners (WBTP) is a non-profit organization sponsored by Rainbow Bookstore Cooperative that sends books to prisoners in Wisconsin and other states. They believe that, quote “books are tools for learning and can open minds to new ideas and fresh possibilities.” They accept donations of money or books. Guitars for Vets provides free music lessons to Vets. After 6 lessons, the student can keep a guitar that has been donated to the Vet Center. Other instruments are available. Call The Madison Vet Center at 264-5342 or stop at 706 Williamson Street Suite #4 across from the Elks Club.

The Dane County Human Society provides low cost spayings and neuterings for dogs and cats. They have various times and prices and they include a Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis vaccine. They can help caretakers of feral or free-roaming cats as well. Call 838-0413 x103 for an appointment or details.

People who cannot afford a lawyer or are not qualified for free legal representation may get help. They may call the University of Wisconsin Law School’s Consumer Law Clinic at 263-6283.
