Saturday from 7:30 to 8:00 am at Stella's Bakery (West Mifflin and Carroll Streets), the More Gardens Contingent and Mayor Dave's Community Gardens Bike Tour begins. The tour aims to point to the urgent need for many more community gardens in Madison! At 9 am, the group will meet at Hammersley Community Garden, 6120 Hammersly Road for a bike tour of several community gardens. Saturday from noon to 5 pm “Wisconsin Books To Prisoners” will hold a book sale at Orton Park Festival, near the corner of Rutledge and Few Streets. You can drop off your donated books and look over the fine collection of reading materials. All proceeds will go towards postage to send new books to those who are eager to read within the Wisconsin prison system. “Wisconsin Books to Prisoners” is a project of Rainbow Bookstore. Saturday at 3 pm Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), Madison General Membership Branch, will hold a meeting at Orton Park Festival, near the corner of Rutledge and Few. Fellow workers will be on hand at the IWW booth during the festival. For details call 255-1800 or 262-9036.

Saturday at 6 pm the Wilmar Center will host a benefit event for Doctor Dan Murphy and the Bairo Pite Clinic in Dili, East Timor. Featured will be a potluck dinner, belly dancing, a medical talk with Doctor Murphy, and live music by Salaam Shalom. Dr. Murphy has been providing free medical care in East Timor since 1998. Sunday from 2 to 6 at Penn Park the Immigrant Workers Union and many allies will sponsor the first Black & Latino Unity Cookout! This event is part of the long term Black-Latino Unity Project that attempts to build bridges between the struggles of the Black and Latino communities.
