Saturday at 1 pm, Lyle Anderson, “University Carillonneur”, performs an Independence Day program on the 56-bell Memorial Carillon at the Carillon Tower. The time coincides with the ringing of bells and carillons nationwide coordinated through "Let Freedom Ring," a Philadelphia-based project that began in 1963. Call 219-5291 for details.

The Madison Area Technical College is looking for mentors and short-term hosts for a group of twenty international students. These students come from developing world countries such as Egypt, Brazil , Costa Rica , El Salvador, Turkey and Indonesia . Their study in Madison is made possible by grant funding. Participants who would like to help show these students what Madison is all about and build connections and friendships with these students from round the world call 243-4556.

Sunday from 9 to Noon, the University of Wisconsin Arboretum presents the Madison Butterfly Count at the Visitor Center, 1207 Seminole Highway. Attendees should bring binoculars.
