Tonight at 7 pm at the Woolen Mill Gallery (26 E. Main St. in Reedsburg), the Growing Season series of cultural events continues with UW-Madison English Prof. Caroline Levine discussing her book, Provoking Democracy, Why we Need the Arts. This lecture will consider the relationship between art and democracy through stories of a series of art controversies, from disputes over public art, copyright, and obscenity, to the operations of the House Un-American Activities Committee during the Cold War. Tonight from 5 to 8, there will be a community-wide meeting at the Downtown Madison Public Library upstairs meeting room to create a plan to solve the lack of affordable housing in Madison. The meeting is organized by the Affordable Housing Action Alliance – a group of concerned citizens - and is endorsed by the South Central Federation of Labor. More info at 256-5111.
