The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic is another free tax assistance program. This program serves individuals who have a problem with the Internal Revenue Service and whose income is below a certain level. LITCs are independent from the IRS. Most LITCs can provide representation before the IRS or in court on audits, tax collection disputes, and other issues for free or for a small fee. If you receive a letter from the IRS saying there was some type of problem with your tax return, the LITC can help! The clinic that serves the Dane County market provides service in English and Spanish. For more information regarding your local LITC, please call 1-877-UWW-LITC.
