There will be a Birthday Party for Wisconsin Civil Service on Friday, June 17th at 12:00 Noon on the Plaza at the corner of Webster and King Streets, one block east of the Capitol Square. Civil service and unions go together, so union people are celebrating the 106th birthday of Wisconsin Civil Service with party games and birthday cake. The party is sponsored by the Ad Hoc Committee on Civil Service Celebrations.

Absolutely Art & Café Zoma has a reception of the artwork of Richard Ely and Laurel Schwartz. Stop by and enjoy with live music by Dave Schindele and catering by Bunky’s Café. This reception is on Friday, June 3, 2011 from 5-9 pm. The exhibit will run from June 1-30. Friends of Sequoya Book Sale is having their annual book sale. This book sale is on Saturday at the Sequoya Branch of the Madison Public Library located at 4340 Tokay Blvd starting at 9am. Call 266-6385 for more information.

Woodland Montessori School, one of Madison’s oldest, independent Montessori schools, will celebrate its 40th birthday this year. Woodland families, alums, and the Madison community are invited to join in the birthday festivities on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 1124 Colby Street, Madison WI from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Sunday, June 5th gather at Union Corners for Boombox the Wasteland, a unique do-it-yourself community event to repurpose and reinvigorate an abandoned public space with people, music, art, performance and music-on-the-radio provided by DJ’s at W-O-R-T. Bring a Boombox with fresh batteries, a blanket, chair, and food to share and an umbrella for shade. The event takes place from 1:30-7:30pm at the intersection of Winnebago and North 6th Street.
