Saturday at 9:30 am, Fitchburg Fields Garden, 5335 Lacy Road in Fitchburg, will offer a workshop about Scythes and other garden tools. The focus will be on using a European scythe for clearing, mowing and harvesting but participants will also learn to use other tools for preparing and maintaining garden beds including the broadfork, the 3-tooth cultivator, the stirrup hoe, and the Cobrahead precision weeder/cultivator. Tonight at 7 pm. the left Film Club will sponsor a free screening of the 2008 film "Che: Part I: the Argentine" at the Stendhal Parlor, 404 S. Today from 10 until 5, the Monona Public Library, 1000 Nichols Road in Monona, will host the second annual Dr. Seuss Readathon for all ages. Participants will select their favorite Dr Seuss book and read it out loud. To sign up for a 5 to 8 minute slot, contact Karen Wendt at 216-7453

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 322 E. Washington in downtown Madison will present jazz pianist Jim Erickson in a benefit concert with silent auction and raffle tomorrow at 6:30 pm. Saturday from 6 to 8 pm, the Alliance for Animals will hold a Spring Fiesta and Silent Auction at the UW Arboretum (1207 Seminole Highway) with an All Vegan Spring Dinner. Veggie burritos, chips and salsa, desserts, soft drinks, beer and coffee will be served. The grand prize raffle is a 4 day/3 night weekend stay at a lakeside cabin on Washington Island.
