Each Friday, International Outreach hosts an English conversation time for international students, native English speakers and families. Activities include short presentations on American and world cultures, English pronunciation, idioms, informal conversation, music, games and short movies. Light refreshments are be served. This evening, A Room of One’s Own Bookstore and the UW-Madison LGBT Campus Center presents the Trans Monologues. Trans Monologues is a night of theater, poems, songs and all other creative expressions of gender identity and expression. Following the Monologues, there is a vigil to remember and honor transgender individuals who have lost their lives. This is at A Room of One’s Own Bookstore ,307 West Johnson, at 6. Tomorrow morning, the Madison Institute hosts the Progressive Roundtable Discussion on “Social Security: Longevity and Fairness” with Dan Cornwell. It is a careful look at funding that shows shortfalls, which are just beginning, will become huge unless changes are made soon to protect future benefits. WYOU seeks musical artists of all genres are invited to create fun, festive and song-filled shows as part of their year-end fundraiser. Each artist will be given 25 minutes in the studio to perform as many songs as will fit within the time limit. The station asks that one song be a holiday song of the artist’s choosing and adventurous arrangements are encouraged. The fundraiser runs from December 5 through December 12. Lifepoint Needle Exchange Program prevents the spread of HIV by trading used needles for clean ones. They also offer HIV and Hepatitis C testing. They are anonymous, free and mobile. It is associated with the AIDS Resource Center in Wisconsin. In Madison participants may call 332-6169 for details.
