Sunday evening, local groups hold the ninth annual Lanterns for Peace ceremony. It commemorates the victims of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and all the victims of war. The event features family activities lantern decorating and floating, peace crane folding, music and refreshments. This is at 6:30 in the Tenney Park Shelter. Pacific Intercultural Exchange has international exchange students from over 40 countries arriving into the area for home stay programs. The non-profit organization is looking for host families to share the American way of life. If you think you may be interested in hosting a foreign teen or would like more information about the program, please call P.I.E. at 1-800-828-9001.

Project Home is in search of volunteers and donations for the Annual Dane County Paint-A-Thon on Saturday, August 19, 2006. Since 1989, the Dane County Paint-A-Thon has revitalized nearly 500 homes for those in need in our community. The program’s vision is to provide no cost exterior painting services to low-income elderly and disabled homeowners in Dane County. The Project also needs brushes, paint pans, rollers, painting tape, gift cards to Paint Supply Stores, and other related supplies.
