This evening, the REAP Food Group holds its Annual Summer Potluck. The event features local food, information on REAP's activities, and live music. The Home Chore Volunteer Program is in need of volunteers citywide to assist low-income elderly persons with basic home chores. The various tasks, which will help these older adults to remain independent in their own homes and neighborhoods, include light housecleaning, laundry, snow shoveling and more. This program is part of the Madison Coalition of Older Adults. To volunteer, call Paula Graffin at 243-5252.


It's This Weekend’s Action Calendar! Friday, July 29

This evening, Critical Mass holds its monthly bike ride. The ride celebrates the bicycle and this alternative to motorized transportation. This meets on the East Washington steps of the Capitol at 5:30. For more information, check www.madisoncriticalmass.org.

Sunday, the Peregrine Forum holds a discussion entitled “Green Anarchy & Neo Primitivism: An Introduction to John Zerzon”. Readings focus on Zerzan's early book “Future Primitive and Other Essays” and his recent book "Running on Emptiness: the Pathology of Civilization". This event is part of the Forum’s continuing Eco-Radicalism series. The books are available at the Madison Infoshop. This is at 616 Brearly Street from 3 to 5. The Respite Center seeks volunteers to work in its child care program. The Respite Center is 24-hour emergency child care and counseling agency that helps out families in crisis. To volunteer, call Kristin at the Respite Center at 244-5730.

The School of Hope seeks volunteers to help children read. Volunteering opportunities exist for as little as a half hour per week. To help, call 246-5481.

Madison Hours invites grassroots groups to cosponsor their monthly pancake breakfast fund raiser. The breakfast occurs the second Sunday of each month from 8:30 to 11:00 at the Wilmar Center. Cosponsors are asked to help publicize the fund raiser to their members and provide two volunteers for the duration of the breakfast. Madison Hours will do all the food preparation and actual cooking. If interested, contact Camy at 455-2712.
